Tummy tuck surgery has undoubtedly become one of the most popular cosmetic treatments across the United States of America. Dr. Tenley Lawton MD can support patients throughout Newport Beach and the surrounding areas with a range of tummy tuck procedures that can be used as a standalone treatment or as part of a Mommy Makeover.
Tummy Tuck Overview
Tummy tucks, otherwise known as abdominoplasty, are used to treat the most problematic body part by tightening lax skin tissues while simultaneously strengthening the underlying muscles. Patients are left with a firmer, tighter abdominal area that promotes a slimmer overall physique. The benefits of this include;
- Improved appearances,
- Increased mobility,
- Bolstered confidence,
- Better mobility,
- Heightened happiness.
While it is primarily considered a cosmetic procedure, tummy tucks are capable of delivering genuine improvements to your quality of life. It is an important procedure for anyone that has lost weight, particularly after pregnancy, as excess skin cannot be lost through diet and exercise. Furthermore, abdominoplasty can be used by both men and women while also bringing a younger appearance.

Tummy Tuck Steps
Tummy tuck procedures can vary slightly from one client to the next, depending on their age, size, and desired expectations. However, Dr. Lawton provides both full tummy tuck and partial tummy tuck treatments. Following a consultation and the necessary pre-visit preparations, the procedure itself will cover these steps;
- You will be given general anesthesia,
- A horizontal incision will be made into one of the natural skin creases located in the bikini area,
- The abdominal skin is lifted, and the muscles underneath are repaired,
- Upper abdominal skin is pulled down, and excess skin is cut away and sutured,
- A new opening is formed for the belly button, which is subsequently popped through to the surface,
- The incisions are closed in several layers to achieve the best scar.
It is a complex surgery that should only be completed by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Lawton uses practices that deliver rapid results that are designed to last. In total, the Tummy Tuck should last around three hours but can be completed in a single appointment.
A partial or mini tuck takes less time. A flatter, firmer stomach will be revealed instantly, although some downtime is required for the wounds around the incision to heal. This usually takes around one month.
Am I a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
Tummy Tucks may be required for a whole host of reasons. The most common, however, is that you’ve either been left with excess skin following pregnancy, rapid weight loss, or liposuction treatments.
If you have loose skin, wrinkles, stretch marks, and other visible symptoms, the tummy tuck is a procedure that should be considered. In many cases, it’ll be the only way to effectively remove the problematic skin forever.
“If there’s anyone contemplating a tummy tuck & breast lift with an augmentation, I highly recommend Dr. Lawton! I brought my aunt to her after seeing my friends incredible results. My aunt lost over 100lbs & had lost all the volume on her breasts & had tons of loose skin on her tummy. I went with my aunt, who only speaks spanish, to her initial consult. She wanted to get her breasts done first, but after Dr. Lawton & Erin educated us & explained the process of doing both tummy & breasts at the same time, she booked the whole makeover! She is almost 3 months post op & looks and feels amazing! I wasn’t able to make all her appointments, but Erin was sweet enough to call me during the visit so I could translate. I can’t say enough about how amazing Erin is! She’s the best patient liaison ever! We had so many questions, more than the average person, I’m sure, and Erin was always happy to help. Thank you Lawton team for making my auntie so beautiful!”*
