Say Goodbye to Turkey Neck

As we age, certain areas of the body are more prone to showing symptoms than others. The neck is one of these areas – a combination of thinning skin and gravity’s influence make it so that neck skin often gets saggy and loose. Excess fat deposits can exacerbate this effect, leading to what’s dubbed as the dreaded “turkey neck.” A neck lift surgery can correct these aging symptoms, leading to a more contoured and youthful-looking neck. Neck lift surgery is available at board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Tenley Lawton’s practice in Newport Beach, CA.

What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift, medically known as a platysmaplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure focused exclusively on tightening saggy, aging neck skin. While some may think the neck isn’t as prone to signs of aging, turkey neck can make your overall appearance older than you actually are. While a neck lift can be performed as its own procedure, many people have a facelift at the same time as their neck lift to achieve total facial rejuvenation and younger-looking skin.

Am I a Candidate?

The best candidates for a neck lift procedure are healthy individuals (non-smokers) who are 21+ and have realistic expectations for the outcome of their procedure. These candidates should display any or all of the following signs of aging:

  • Excess neck fat
  • Loose and sagging skin under the chin and around the neck
  • Jowls

If you’re self-conscious about the way your neck looks, you can schedule an appointment with Dr. Lawton at her Newport Beach practice. Dr. Lawton will examine your neck and help determine if you’re a good candidate for a neck lift.

How Does It Work?

A neck lift is performed by making incisions within the sideburns and around the ears; this incision allows Dr. Lawton to access sagging neck muscles while making it possible for you to hide your surgical scars within the hairline. During the procedure, Dr. Lawton tightens and corrects the neck muscles, while removing any excess skin that may prevent you from enjoying your final results. Some neck lift procedures benefit from liposuction, which can be performed during the surgery.

Real Patients Real Stories

Results*

Most patients can expect to see a tighter, more contoured neck following their surgery. You will see results immediately following your surgery, but optimal results may not be visible for a few months following surgery once the swelling subsides.

Recovery*

Immediately after neck lift surgery, a bandage will be applied to your neck and face; you may also have a drainage tube to help pass along any fluids. This tube is usually removed within a couple of days after surgery. It’s important for patients to keep their heads elevated above their heart after surgery, as this helps minimize bruising and swelling. You should expect some discomfort within the first week after the procedure; however, you should be able to return to work within the first one to two weeks. Dr. Lawton will work with you to develop a personalized recovery plan.
