How is Botox® Administered?

While lines and wrinkles can pop up anywhere, some of the deepest, most noticeable ones appear around the brows, eyes, and forehead. Botox® is a non-surgical way to smooth away these wrinkles and even deep creases, letting you enjoy a refreshed, energized appearance. As one of the most popular aesthetic treatments worldwide, this injectable treatment conveniently fits into any schedule to make looking more youthful easier than ever.

What is Botox® (Botulinum Toxin)?

Botox® is a type of neuromodulator or neurotoxin that works by relaxing the facial muscles that cause your skin to crease and wrinkle. It uses a compound called botulinum toxin to target facial nerves and tell them to stop sending signals. Without these signals, the targeted muscles stop contracting and let your skin relax. Botulinum toxin does not harm your nerves or muscles and wears off over three to four months.

How is Botox® Administered?

When you receive Botox®, your expert injector will determine the correct amount of the product to meet your needs, whether you prefer a subtle or dramatic change. Botox® is administered as a series of injections, each one placing a tiny amount of the product into the targeted area. The number of injections needed depends on the size of the treatment area or areas. Injections can take as little as 15 minutes, and most people report that they feel like small pinches at most.

How Many Units of Botox® Will I Need?

Botox® is usually measured in units. Providers may charge by the unit or by the area. The number of units required depends on several factors, including:

  • The severity of your lines and wrinkles
  • The amount of relaxation you want to see
  • Your gender (men typically have heavier, thicker forehead and brow muscles)
  • How your body responds to Botox®

Additional units do not make your results last longer. Your expert injector will discuss how much Botox® you will need to achieve your goals.

Is There Any Downtime After Botox®?

One of the best benefits of Botox® is the lack of downtime required. You can return to work or other activities immediately. However, avoid rubbing your face for several hours and wait till the next day to resume strenuous exercise. You may notice minor redness, swelling, or bruising in the treatment area that fades within a few days.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Botox® is suitable for most healthy adults. It is even used in children for medical purposes such as muscle spasms. Good candidates want to address lines and wrinkles caused by muscle movement. You may not be a good candidate if you are pregnant, have certain medical conditions, or have had a negative reaction to Botox® or a similar product.
