How Long Does Botox® Take to Work?

Botox® can smooth away your lines and wrinkles on your forehead, between your eyes, and around your eyes and mouth. With many medical uses and FDA-approved for cosmetic procedures, this neurotoxin can reduce the look of even deep wrinkles and lines.

What is Botox®?

When we smile, frown, or make other facial expressions, our facial muscles move and pull the skin with them. Over time, this pulling creates wrinkles that get deeper with age. Botox® works by blocking signals from nerves to muscles. Without the action of muscles pulling it into wrinkles, the skin becomes smoother and more relaxed.

How Does Botox® Work?

Injected into specific areas of the face, Botox® can quiet the muscles that pull your skin into frown lines or other expression wrinkles. Without signals from the nerves, the treated muscles and the skin overlying them can relax and smooth out, making even deep wrinkles disappear.

Because Botox® temporarily silences signals between nerves and muscles but causes no damage, the results do not last permanently. After the toxin wears off, the muscle will begin to work normally again.

How Long Does Botox® Take to Work?

Many people start seeing results around three to four days after their Botox® procedure. Full results can take up to ten to fourteen days. It takes time for Botox® to act on the nerves and stop them from transmitting signals, so the muscle action does not stop right away.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

Results from Botox® typically last three to four months. Many people have the treatment on a regular basis to keep their muscles relaxed and their wrinkles smoothed away. Maintenance treatments can keep your results looking great indefinitely, but if you stop Botox® treatments, the lines and wrinkles will come back.

Botox® VS Dermal Fillers

Botox® and dermal fillers both work to reduce lines and wrinkles, but they work very differently. Dermal fillers lift the wrinkles up by plumping them from underneath, while Botox® temporarily silences the cause of the wrinkles. Neither treatment lasts forever, and both will require maintenance if you want to keep your youthful look.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?

You may experience mild bruising or swelling at the injection site, but many people have no effects at all. You can go back to all of your normal activities immediately after treatment with no downtime.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Botox® has a well-established safety record, and almost anyone is a good candidate. If you have smile lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, or forehead creases, Botox® may be the answer you’ve been looking for.
