What are Dermal Fillers Made Of?

People want to enhance their facial volume for many reasons, including signs of aging, thin lips, or lack of definition. Dermal fillers can restore more youthful features by adding natural-looking volume. These injectable treatments are made of FDA-approved, body-safe materials that can stay in your body for long periods of time without any effect.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Facial volume loss often occurs with age. However, dermal fillers treat more than just signs of aging. Lip fillers can give you plumper, softer-looking lips, while other fillers can add definition to your natural features. Dr. Tenley Lawton and her team offer the Juvederm® family of dermal fillers. These treatments can address almost any area of the face to help you achieve your desired look.

What are Dermal Fillers Made Of?

Dermal fillers come in many materials. Juvederm® fillers use a molecule called hyaluronic acid. Your skin naturally uses hyaluronic acid to hold onto moisture. Juvederm® fillers use a lab-made version that can form cross-links to create fillers with different properties. Hyaluronic acid is by far the most widely used dermal filler material. It is also the only reversible dermal filler material, and undesired results can be undone with an injection.

What Can Juvederm® Dermal Fillers Treat?

Juvederm® fillers serve many purposes. Each filler in the family has different properties that allow them to address a variety of concerns.

  • Juvederm® Vollure treats deep lines and creases such as nasolabial folds
  • Juvederm® Voluma restores lost volume and adds definition to the cheeks
  • Juvederm® Volbella is an effective lip filler with natural-looking results
  • Juvederm® Volux defines and enhances your jawline for a stronger profile
  • Juvederm® Ultra XC is a lip filler that also works for fine lines around the mouth
  • Juvederm® Ultra XC Plus treats wrinkles such as marionette lines

Juvederm® fillers address most volume-related facial concerns for a more youthful, defined appearance. If you have concerns not listed above, schedule a consultation and learn which options will give you your desired results.

Is There Any Downtime After Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are administered as a series of injections. There is no downtime so you can return to your usual activities immediately. Some people notice small spots of redness or bruising in the injection area. These effects will fade within a day or two. You may have minor swelling that resolves after a few days. Many people have a dermal filler appointment on a lunch break and return to work afterward.

Am I a Good Candidate for Juvederm® Dermal Fillers?

Juvederm® fillers use hyaluronic acid, which is safe for almost anyone. Good candidates want to add volume and definition to their features. Candidates should have reasonable expectations and no history of a negative reaction to dermal fillers. You should not have filler injections if you have an active infection or skin condition in the area.
