How Do Juvederm® Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers come in several different forms. Juvederm® fillers use a molecule called hyaluronic acid. Your skin uses hyaluronic acid to attract moisture and keep the skin hydrated. It makes an excellent dermal filler material because these molecules can form long or short chains that give each Juvederm® filler its unique properties. 

What to Expect After Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers like Juvederm® are injected into the treatment area during a process that takes about 15 minutes. You can leave immediately after your appointment. You should avoid intense physical activity for about 24 to 48 hours. You can resume all other activities as you usually would. 

Juvederm® results may be visible immediately or may develop over the next day or two. You may notice that the area feels mildly sensitive or swollen. This usually resolves within a few days. You can expect your dermal filler treatment to last six to twelve months. Thicker, more dense fillers like those used in the cheeks tend to outlast softer ones like those used for the lips.
