What are Dermal Fillers Used For?

Lines, wrinkles, and volume loss often come with the aging process. You can rejuvenate your features with dermal fillers. This injectable treatment lifts and smooths wrinkles, restores volume to the cheeks, and enhances features like your lips and even your chin.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are biologically safe materials injected into the skin to add volume. Dr. Lawton and her team offer Juvederm® dermal fillers. These fillers use hyaluronic acid (HA), a large molecule your skin uses to attract and hold moisture. HA can form cross-links that allow it to work in different parts of the face depending on your needs.

What are Dermal Fillers Used For?

Each member of the Juvederm® family of fillers works best for a different purpose.

Juvederm® Voluma

This dense, resilient filler restores lost volume to the cheeks. It can also add definition and give you a youthful fullness.

Juvederm® Vollure

This line and wrinkle filler works well for treating challenging areas like nasolabial folds, also known as smile lines. It can also smooth other deep lines and creases.

Juvederm® Volbella

If you want soft, full lips that look entirely natural, this filler can help. Its smooth, flexible formula makes it ideal for this mobile part of the face.

Juvederm® Ultra

While it works as a lip plumper, this filler also works to smooth vertical lines around the mouth. It moves with your lips for a natural look.

Juvederm® Ultra Plus

If you have concerns about nasolabial folds, marionette lines, or other deep wrinkles, this filler can help. Its sturdy formula is resilient enough for demanding applications.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Each dermal filler has a different lifespan depending on its formula and the area of the face. Juvederm® fillers can be expected to last six to twelve months. Some may last up to eighteen months with good skincare and sun protection.

Do I Need Botox® or Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers work best on lines and wrinkles caused by collagen loss and skin laxity. Botox® treats lines and wrinkles that result from muscle movements and facial expressions. They are not interchangeable, and some people have both at once for different types of wrinkles. Dr. Lawton and her team will help decide which will work best for you.

Is There Any Downtime With Dermal Fillers?

You can return to your usual activities as soon as you leave your dermal filler appointment. You might see a few red spots or minor bruises at the injection sites, but you can expect them to go away within a day or two.

Am I a Good Candidate for Juvederm® Dermal Fillers?

Because HA occurs naturally in your skin, Juvederm® makes a safe choice for most people. Good candidates want to address lines, wrinkles, or volume loss. You may not be a good candidate if you have a skin infection or have had a reaction to an HA filler before.
