How Long Does Microneedling Last?

Men and women of all ages can experience skin issues like fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and acne scars. Microneedling provides powerful skin rejuvenation by triggering collagen production. This effective treatment offers smoother, brighter skin with long-lasting results.

What is Microneedling or Collagen Induction Therapy?

Your body’s production of collagen, a vital structural protein that keeps your skin youthful, peaks in your 20s and begins to decline. This gradual decline leads to skin laxity, dullness, and line lines. Microneedling offers a powerful way to jumpstart your skin cells’ collagen production. It works so effectively that you may hear it called “collagen induction therapy.”

How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling with SkinPen® uses tiny needles that create channels in the skin. These channels are surrounded by healthy cells that immediately respond with healing and growth factors.

This controlled damage tells your skin to make more collagen, restoring its resilience and firmness. It also brings vibrant new skin cells to the surface to brighten dullness and erase pigmentation issues. New collagen corrects skin laxity, provides a more even surface, and restores youthful fullness.

How Long Does Microneedling Last?

Some people may see their desired results after one SkinPen® microneedling session, while others need several. Most people start to see results within a few days, with full results developing over the next few weeks. Your microneedling results can last six months to a year, especially with good skin care.

Avoiding sun exposure and using sun protection keeps UV light from damaging your developing collagen. Dr. Lawton and her team can recommend a range of medical-grade skincare products that will help your microneedling results last longer. Many people schedule regular microneedling sessions to keep their skin looking youthful.

Is There Any Downtime With Microneedling?

Microneedling requires no downtime, and you can return to work immediately. Your face may look red and feel flushed for a few hours or days. You may also notice minor swelling that resolves in less than a week. These should not interfere with your usual routine. Avoid harsh or strongly scented products for the first few days to avoid potential irritation.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Microneedling is safe for all skin types and tones. Good candidates for microneedling have reasonable expectations and are in good health. You can benefit from microneedling if you are seeking treatment for hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and more. You should not have microneedling if you have certain bleeding disorders or a skin infection.
