Am I a Candidate for a Thigh Lift?

Has weight loss caused loose skin around your thighs? A thigh lift removes this excess skin, giving you slimmer, more sculpted legs. This procedure makes an excellent option for anyone who feels like sagging thigh skin holds them back from enjoying life.

What is a Thigh Lift?

Many people’s bodies store excess weight around the thighs and lower body. If you lose this weight, you may be left with loose skin that makes you feel self-conscious. A thigh lift is a procedure that removes excess skin and tightens your thighs. A thigh lift provides a definitive solution if you have skin laxity in this area due to weight loss or other causes.

Am I a Candidate for a Thigh Lift?

Only a consultation can determine with certainty whether you are a candidate for a thigh lift. Good candidates should meet these criteria:

  • No significant health problems
  • Reasonable expectations
  • A positive outlook
  • Maintains a stable weight
  • Does not smoke
  • Understands the risks and benefits

Dr. Lawton recommends that candidates for thigh lifts work to maintain a stable weight before and after the procedure. While thigh lift results are long-lasting, they can change if your weight changes. Dr. Lawton will review many factors, including your medical history, goals, and expectations, to ensure a thigh lift is appropriate for you.

How Does a Thigh Lift Work?

Dr. Lawton uses the natural crease of your groin to hide your thigh lift incisions. She uses these incisions to lift your thigh skin and remove the excess. The size of the incisions depends on how much skin needs to be removed and which parts of your thighs are most affected.

The procedure takes place under general anesthesia and takes three to four hours. After removing the loose skin, Dr. Lawton closes the incisions, and you will recover under supervision until you are cleared to leave. You will need someone to drive you home after surgery.

What is Recovery Like After a Thigh Lift?

You can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort after your thigh lift. These improve within the first week. Dr. Lawton and her team will provide you with detailed instructions for your aftercare, including how to care for your incisions and when to resume activities. Most people can return to work in two to three weeks. Strenuous activities that put your lower body under stress should be avoided for several more weeks.

Can I Have Other Procedures With a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift is often called a lower body lift. It can be combined with other lift procedures, such as an arm lift or abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Many people who have lost weight have significantly loose skin in several areas, so you may benefit from more than one procedure.
