How is a Breast Lift Performed?
Depending on your needs, Dr. Lawton may perform breast lift surgery in one of three ways.
Around the Areola
Dr. Lawton makes incisions around the edges of the areola. The border of the areola hides the scars. This procedure allows her to remove excess tissue and strengthen the breast tissues.
Around the Areola to the Breast Crease
After making incisions around the areola, Dr. Lawton extends the incision down to the breast crease. This gives her access to more breast tissue for more tightening and repositioning.
Around the Breast and Out
In this procedure, an incision around the breast extends horizontally and vertically in both directions. This allows Dr. Lawton to perform significant restructuring as needed.
How Long Do Breast Lift Incisions Take to Heal?
The healing process will depend on your body and the type of mastopexy procedure. Immediately after the procedure, your incisions will have a support garment, bandages, and sutures to help them heal. Dr. Lawton may remove your sutures after one to two weeks, but your incisions are not completely healed.
People with less active jobs can often resume work within a week or two. You should limit physical activities, especially those that stress your incisions, for at least three to four weeks. Dr. Lawton will assess your progress during follow-up visits and instruct you when to resume activities like exercise and lifting.
The results of your breast lift can take six months to a year to develop completely. Your breasts will settle into their new position, and residual swelling will resolve as your final results evolve.
