How Much Does a Chemical Peel Cost?

Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that improve the appearance or feel of your skin. This non-surgical procedure treats skin discoloration and acne scars, as well as fine lines and wrinkles, by removing the outer layers of your skin. Get a boost to your self-confidence and experience radiant skin with a chemical peel.

According to 2018 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of a chemical peel was $669. The total cost of your treatment will depend on the type of peel you need and other factors. Dr. Tenley K. Lawton will help determine the best peel to address your skin concerns and achieve your desired results.

What Goes Into the Cost of a Chemical Peel?

Your individual treatment cost may vary by type of peel, frequency of treatments, and expertise of the provider. Other factors contributing to your total cost include facility costs, anesthesia fees (if applicable), prescriptions for medications, and location.

Type of Peel

Light chemical peels only penetrate the outermost layer of the skin. These require very minimal downtime and can cost as low as $150. Deep chemical peels fully penetrate the deepest layer of the skin, addressing more serious skin imperfections. These peels may require anesthesia or an in-patient stay. As a result, deep peels can cost up to $3,000 and require 2-3 weeks of recovery time.

Frequency of Treatments

Each type of peel – light, medium or deep – uses a different chemical solution, increasing in strength. Depending on your desired results, a maintenance treatment plan will be discussed during your consultation.

A light peel can take up to one week to heal but can be repeated as often as every two to five weeks. A medium peel can take up to 14 days to heal and may be repeated quarterly or semi-annually. Deep peels are generally a one-time procedure, with results lasting for years.

Expertise of Provider

Provider fees are based on his or her individual experience and whether they are board-certified. Choosing a skilled surgeon can minimize downtime and recovery. When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Lawton, chemical peels are considered safe and effective.
