What Skin Conditions Can Be Addressed with Microneedling?

You may know that collagen loss is part of aging, but did you know it starts as early as your thirties? Treatments that trigger collagen formation, also known as collagen induction therapy, can dramatically improve your skin and address a wide range of concerns. Microneedling is one of the most popular and widely used methods of skin rejuvenation. This treatment uses your skin’s healing response to improve texture and tone.

What is Microneedling With SkinPen®?

Microneedling or collagen induction therapy is a non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment that stimulates new collagen formation. Dr. Tenley Lawton offers SkinPen®, the first FDA-approved microneedling device, to help you achieve maximum results. SkinPen® acts at a depth of 2mm, allowing your microneedling expert to target your problem areas precisely.

What Skin Conditions Can Be Addressed With Microneedling?

One benefit of microneedling is its ability to address many skin issues simultaneously. People often have microneedling to treat:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Skin laxity
  • Dullness
  • Age spots

Microneedling excels at smoothing textural imperfections by causing your skin to make more collagen. This new collagen tightens and strengthens the skin. At the same time, microneedling creates micro-damage to the skin, triggering a healing process that brings healthy new skin cells to the surface to replace dull, damaged ones.

Is There Any Downtime With Microneedling?

You will not need to take time off work or other activities for your microneedling treatment. You may experience minor redness and swelling for a few days, but this should not limit your activities. Wearing sunscreen and avoiding sun exposure after microneedling will protect your developing collagen from sun damage.

How Many Microneedling Treatments Will I Need?

The number of microneedling treatments you need depends on several factors, including the skin conditions you want to treat. Most people need at least three sessions to achieve their goals. Those with more significant pigmentation or texture issues may need additional treatments.

You will start to see your SkinPen® microneedling results a few weeks after your first treatment. Full results can take up to six months to develop as your skin produces more collagen. Many people schedule occasional maintenance treatments to keep their skin smooth and glowing. You can extend your time between touch-ups with good skincare and diligent sun protection.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling With SkinPen®?

Unlike many lasers and heat-based treatments, SkinPen® microneedling is safe for all skin types and tones. Good candidates for microneedling want to address skin concerns with minimal downtime and powerful results. You should not have microneedling if you have a skin infection or active skin condition in the treatment area or tend to form abnormal scars.
