Top Tips for Better Sleep

Sleep is a critical part of your body’s natural recovery process. As a plastic surgeon in Newport Beach, I’ve seen the effects that lack of sleep can have, both in the physical and emotional sense. According to surveys from the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), 60% of adults in America report having sleep problems a few weeks or more a month.

Recently, HealthNewsDigest.com put out an article compiling 10 of the top tips to achieve a more satisfying night of sleep. Below are a few of their tips that I would put at the top of my list:

  1. Break the napping habit. Taking a nap during the day can harm your ability to sleep soundly at night. If you are in desperate need of a nap, keep it to a brief 15-20 minutes at least five hours before you go to bed.
  2. Skip the Afternoon Caffeine. Consuming caffeine later in the day can have incredibly adverse effects in your ability to fall asleep. Cutting back on the afternoon coffee will ensure that you are more ready for sleep in the evening.
  3. Exercise during the day. Exercise during the day will help put your body in the position to be more ready for a good night of sleep.
