3 Tips for Recovery After a Mommy Makeover

As a mother of two, Dr. Tenley Lawton understands firsthand the toll pregnancy and childbirth can take on a woman’s body. This understanding leads her to specialize in mommy makeovers. This combination of procedures is designed to help women regain their pre-baby bodies. A mommy makeover can restore and even improve the figure you used to have.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover combines several procedures to address the results of pregnancy. Dr. Lawton customizes each mommy makeover to focus on your needs and concerns. A mommy makeover offers a powerful way to rejuvenate and restore your body, but it does require some recovery time, so you should plan accordingly. Once healed, mommy makeover results are dramatic and long-lasting.

What is Included in a Mommy Makeover?

The most common procedures in a mommy makeover include a tummy tuck, breast augmentation or lift, and liposuction. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the abdominal area. It also tightens the muscles, resulting in a flatter, more toned appearance. Breast augmentation or lift can restore volume and shape to the breasts that may have been lost during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Liposuction can help remove stubborn pockets of fat in areas such as the thighs and abdomen. Discuss your other concerns with Dr. Lawton since many other procedures can be included.

Three Tips for Recovery After a Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover involves several procedures that require recovery time. The area of the tummy tuck will take the longest time to heal completely. Making and following a plan for your recovery time can help you achieve your desired results and reduce the risk of complications.

Have a Post-Surgery Plan

You can expect that you will need to take a few weeks off from work, so arrange this before your surgery. You will not be able to lift anything over 25 pounds for several weeks, so you may need help with daily activities, especially if you have small children that you will need to carry. Ensure you have a support network to get you through the first weeks of recovery.

Take Time to Rest

You can expect to spend most of the first week or two resting. Sleeping on your back with your upper body elevated will relieve swelling and protect your incisions. Move around as instructed to maintain good blood flow. Resist the temptation to start doing things sooner than you should since this could result in problems with your healing.

Follow Your Surgeon’s Instructions

Dr. Lawton will provide detailed post-surgical instructions and schedule follow-up appointments. Take all medications exactly as directed, and do not stop before you should. Limit your activities, and do not try to push your body to do more than it should.  Returning to work or daily activities too soon can put stress on your body while it should be resting and recovering.
