If your plastic surgeon won’t show you before-and-after pictures of previous patients, or says they don’t have any, that’s a huge red flag — and one that should make you seriously consider looking elsewhere.
Why are those pictures so important? Because no matter how well-credentialed a surgeon is, no matter how much experience they have, no matter how great they are at building relationships, in the end, it all comes down to the results. And when you’re placing your trust in someone to enhance your appearance, pictures are worth way more than a thousand words.
What to ask for
Of course, you want to view photos of previous patients who have had the same procedure you’re considering. But go further than that — ask if the surgeon has photos from patients who were looking to address similar issues, even ones who might look like you. This will help you approximate how the procedure would impact your specific appearance. For example, if you’re fair-skinned with red hair, photos showing an olive-skinned patient might not resonate as well.
What to look for
When you’re viewing these photos, see how the results match your expectations for a procedure. Does the “after” picture look natural and not overdone? Is the improvement significant and immediately noticeable? If you are seeking subtle refinements with your procedure, look for photos that show that, instead of those showing radical transformations. And if you see something that looks out of the ordinary, ask about it.
Where to look
Ideally, the plastic surgeon you’re considering will make it easy to access before-and-after photos — Dr. Tenley Lawton does, because she’s proud of her work and the impact she has on her patients’ lives. The Newport Beach professional has an entire section of her website devoted to photos. Click here to see galleries for a wide range of procedures, and here to read what previous patients have to say; then contact us to discuss how we can refine your appearance and enhance your self-confidence.
