What is Recovery Like After an Arm Lift?

Many men and women are bothered by excessive skin and fat on the upper arms after weight loss or the natural aging process. Sometimes the condition can leave us with anxiety when it comes to social situations or choosing certain types of clothing. The good news is, arm lift procedures (Brachioplasty) can give you a slimmer, more contoured shape. And, with careful planning, you’ll be able to get the results you want with limited downtime.

If you’re considering an arm lift procedure and want to know more about projected recovery, it might be time to schedule an in-person consultation with a board-certified surgeon. Dr. Tenley K. Lawton. Dr. Lawton works with each patient individually to ensure an optimal outcome with the least amount of downtime possible. Today, we’ll take a closer look at what you can expect from your upcoming procedure so you can make an informed decision.

The Day-Of Your Procedure

Arm lift procedures are generally performed in our state-of-the-art, fully accredited surgical suites. In most cases, your arm lift will take 2-3 hours, and you’ll be able to go home the very same day. Because Brachioplasty is done under general anesthesia, you’ll need someone to drive you home and stay with you for upwards of 24-48 hours.

The Weeks Following Your Arm Lift

Sometime during the first several days of recovery, a follow-up visit with Dr. Lawton will be scheduled. Surgical drains (if any) will typically be removed at this time. Some pain, swelling, and bruising are normal throughout the first week. Dr. Lawton will prescribe both pain medication and a topical antibiotic ointment to keep you comfortable during the first week or two.

Most patients feel ready to return to work and other day-to-day activities in about 1-2 weeks. However, you can expect some restrictions when it comes to more strenuous tasks including;

  • Avoid lifting your arms above shoulder level for 2-4 weeks.
  • Minimize physical activities that may stretch or pull incisions for 4-8 weeks.
  • Adhere to specific weight lifting restrictions provided by Dr. Lawton.

Although full recovery from an arm lift can take several months, most patients experience a higher level of self-confidence almost immediately. That being said, every patient has a different healing process that’s unique to them. The best way to prepare for your upcoming surgery is through a consultation with Dr. Lawton.

Dr. Lawton is a perfectionist, a “Rembrandt”. She did in one try what my previous surgeon couldn’t do in 4 tries. I finally have my body, my life, and my self esteem restored. Thank you for being caring, calm, reassuring. You’re the best. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

SI, Happy Patient
