What is the Recovery Time for a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a popular procedure for many women wishing to get their pre-pregnancy bodies back. Combined with proper diet and exercise, the process can help improve the look of your stomach and breasts. Mommy makeovers generally involve a combination of surgeries. The most common combined surgeries include:

The most extensive surgery usually performed as part of a mommy makeover is the tummy tuck which takes the longest to recover from.

What Can I Expect After Surgery?

For the first week after your mommy makeover, rest and relaxation are your key priorities. Moving around your home can be painful so plan ahead to have daily tasks covered by a partner, friend, or loved one. In general, the first several days are the most uncomfortable with pain levels significantly decreasing thereafter.

If you have traveled to Dr. Lawton from afar for your surgery, plan to stay in the hospital or nearby for the first week. During the second week, it’s advisable to get out and go for short walks. Periodic naps throughout the day may be necessary until your energy levels are increased. Resting is key to avoid raising your heart rate too much.

When Can I Return to Work?

After two weeks, women with a sedentary or low-impact job may typically return to work. Those with more physically demanding employment may need to take more time to recover before going back to work. Expect an additional one to two weeks of recovery time for a physically demanding job.

When Will I See the Final Results?

Initially, after your surgery, your abdomen and breasts will be swollen. After the fifth and sixth weeks of recovery time, you will be feeling better and able to enjoy your new body. Exercise can be resumed around week six. If your workout routine involves weight lifting or excessively strenuous exercises, you may have to wait until two full months have passed.

Keep in mind that the healing process may not be the same for everyone. It ultimately depends on your own body and the types of surgeries you elected to have. What is normal for one person may not be for another so be patient and allow your body to fully heal from the trauma.

I loved working with Dr. Lawton and her staff! After having three kids and working out 5-6 days a week I couldn’t get rid of the extra skin! Dr. Lawton and her staff spent so much time answering my questions helping me to visualize my “after” results. I had a full mommy makeover and I could not be happier!! It was money well spent!!! Thank you Dr. Lawton!!
