How Long Should I Wait After Childbirth to Have a Mommy Makeover?

Understandably, many women are eager to get back to their pre-pregnancy figure as soon as possible. A mommy makeover can have a wonderful impact on a woman’s self-image after a pregnancy. However, it’s essential that you take the necessary time your body needs to recover from childbirth before undergoing any type of cosmetic procedure. Otherwise, you may risk prolonging the healing process.

How Soon Is Too Soon?

Women should not start to consider a mommy makeover while they are pregnant or immediately after childbirth. You’re still going through hormonal changes both physically and mentally during this time. While most women are unhappy with their bodies directly after pregnancy, many of these problems are able to resolve themselves over time. Spend the weeks and months after childbirth relaxing, recovering, and getting to know your precious little one.

Transformation Takes Time

Every woman is unique. For some, it can take months for your abdominal skin and breast tissue to contract after having a baby. Breasts may be engorged for up to 6-months after you’ve finished breastfeeding (or 6-months after childbearing if you’re not nursing). You’ll need to allow time for your breasts to return to their normal size and shape and stop producing milk before considering a mommy makeover.

If you’re still unhappy with excess abdominal skin, love handles, or sagging breasts after 6-months, a mommy makeover can typically help. Women that are interested in vaginal rejuvenation after giving birth may need to wait upwards of 6-12 months. Conversely, your body may need more time to heal if you’ve had more than one child within a year of each other.

CONSULTATIONS AVAILABLE NOW

The first step is to schedule an in-person consultation with Dr. Lawton or one of our trusted providers at Tenley K Lawton M.D. in Neport Beach, CA. Simply fill out the form on this page and we will reach out to you promptly to schedule your appointment.

What’s Right for You?

A mommy makeover is not intended for significant weight loss. Rather, the procedure is used to contour your pre-pregnancy figure after you’re already close to your ideal weight. Women should be close to their goals and maintain a stable weight for at least 6-months to achieve an optimal outcome. Fluctuations in weight may negatively impact the results of your procedure.

The ideal candidate for a mommy makeover is a woman who is in otherwise good physical and mental health. Women should be non-smokers and done with the family planning stage of their life. During your in-person consultation, board-certified surgeon and mommy makeover specialist Dr. Tenley K. Lawton will assess your concerns and determine if you’re ready for a mommy makeover.

Dr. Lawton did a wonderful job with my surgery. Her staff was helpful and caring. I was very impressed with the look of the office and even the gown you usually get in a doctors office (wrinkled green cotton)was black with gold and done in very good taste and made you feel special. I feel so much better about myself and should have had this procedure 30 years ago. You are never too old to fix something your are not happy with.
