It’s not uncommon for a woman to feel self-conscious about the size and shape of her breasts. In fact, breast augmentations have maintained their place as the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure for years. Dr. Tenley Lawton is a board-certified plastic surgeon with an extensive education when it comes to breast augmentations. She works closely with each and every patient to ensure the best possible outcome is successful.
Immediately following your augmentation, you’ll need to give your body time to heal. Although a breast augmentation is typically an outpatient procedure, it may take several days to feel like yourself again. You may feel groggy and experience slight swelling and bruising around the incision site. Medication can be prescribed to manage any post-surgical pain.

Every situation is unique. It depends on the incision, the chosen implant, and your body’s natural healing process, but on average, you may be able to return to work within 1 week. Patients who hold jobs with a high level of physical activity should talk to Dr. Lawton beforehand.
More strenuous activities such as exercise should be avoided for 3-4 weeks. It’s important to listen to your body during this time to ensure healing time is not prolonged. A good rule of thumb is not to lift more than 10-pounds in the first two weeks and not to lift more than 20-pounds in the first four weeks after your surgery.
It can take one to two months to fully recover from your breast augmentation. Dr. Lawton will create an individualized recovery plan based on your situation and surgery choices. Feel free to address any concerns you may be having about your recovery during your post-surgical visits.
*Individual results may vary.
