Will I Be Able to Sit During Thigh Lift Recovery?

Are your legs less toned than they once were? Do you wish there was a safe way to reshape your sagging thighs? A thigh lift may be just what you need to tone and revitalize your thighs. Dr. Tenley K. Lawton is a board-certified plastic surgeon and body contouring specialist. Using advanced techniques developed over the years, she routinely performs this procedure on men and women. You can benefit from her artistry and boost your confidence while in form-fitting clothing.

Recovery time for a thigh lift (or thighplasty) is dependent on your individual procedure. In general, you should sit, stand, walk, and bend with caution since your incisions are subject to tension and pulling.

The Day of Your Procedure

Thighplasty is usually carried out under general anesthetic. In most cases, you’ll be able to go home once you wake up from surgery. Since you may feel sore afterward, you should have someone pick you up and be available to help for the first few days.

The First Two Weeks

Because of the location of your incisions, it’s vital to be cautious when moving during the first two weeks of recovery. You may need to restrict your activities during this time. In the first week, patients commonly experience pain in the thigh area as well as swelling and bruising around the incision sites. Pain can generally be managed with oral pain medication. You should be able to notice a slimmer silhouette at the end of week one.

Dr. Lawton will provide you with comprehensive postoperative care instructions that will help reduce your downtime and recovery. You may be fitted with a compression garment, or advised to purchase one, to protect your incisions and support your body as it heals. These should be worn 24/7 or as instructed.

Recovery & Resuming Daily Life

Recovery typically takes between 4-6 weeks, though some patients may require more time depending on their specific procedure. Most normal activities can be resumed after this time. Short walks and non-strenuous exercises are encouraged early in recovery. The swelling will continue to reduce as you recover but may take up to six months to fully subside.

Most patients can return to work within 2-3 weeks, depending on your job. Dr. Lawton will advise how long you should wait before driving or resuming strenuous exercise. Maintaining a stable weight contributes to achieving optimal results.

Tightness After Sitting

Patients have reported numbness and tightness after sitting for extended periods during their recovery. However, once they walk or move around, the sensations subside. Due to the tension placed on your incisions, sitting can be painful during the first six weeks. As the area heals, you will experience a reduction in tightness and discomfort. Caring for your incisions appropriately is imperative during this time.

Fantastic service, amazingly high quality surgical results, 10/10 would recommend, friendly and helpful staff. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results of my procedure! Thanks Dr. Lawton!!
