How Can I Prevent Long-Term Scarring After My Surgery?
Typically performed under general anesthesia, or local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, breast augmentation is an outpatient surgery allowing most patients to return home and begin recovery the same day.
To prevent unnecessary or long-term scarring, avoid the following during recovery:
- Heavy lifting
- Excessive exfoliating or scrubbing
- Ibuprofen and aspirin
- Tanning and prolonged sun exposure (use sunscreen even when incisions are covered)
- Over-the-counter supplements (unless cleared by your surgeon)
While it isn’t necessary to avoid alcohol consumption, it is recommended that you limit it during your recovery process.
