When Can I Swim After Breast Augmentation?

Do you feel self-conscious about your breasts’ shape, size, or symmetry? A breast augmentation can give you the fuller, more attractive breasts you want. Before going ahead with a breast augmentation, most people have many questions. Many of these questions are about the recovery process and timeline.

How Does Breast Augmentation Work?

Breast augmentation uses saline or silicone implants to enhance and add volume to the breasts. Dr. Tenley Lawton performs breast augmentation in her accredited surgical suite in Orange County. She will develop a customized treatment plan, taking into account your desired breast appearance, your preferred implant type, and your anatomy. She recognizes that breasts are as unique as the individuals who come for breast augmentation.

When Can I Swim After Breast Augmentation?

This is a common question, especially since the rules regarding swimming also apply to taking a bath. While you can shower after a few days, soaking or swimming can expose your healing incisions to water that could cause an infection. You can swim about two weeks after your breast augmentation if Dr. Lawton gives you her approval.

What is Getting a Breast Augmentation Like?

Dr. Lawton will make small incisions either under the breast, along the edge of the areola, or in the armpit. All of these methods leave minimal scars hidden in your natural creases and curves. The chosen implants will be inserted through these incisions and placed into spaces created in the breasts. The procedure happens under general anesthesia, so you feel no discomfort.

What is Recovery Like From Breast Augmentation?

You should prepare meals and other necessities before your procedure. You will feel some discomfort and should rest and recover for about five to seven days. Most people can return to work and daily activities after a week. Strenuous activity should wait for several more weeks until Dr. Lawton approves it.

You will see an immediate difference in the shape and size of your breasts after your procedure, although they will look better as they heal and the swelling resolves. Your breasts will take six months or more to settle into their new shape and position. Your results will continue to evolve and improve as residual swelling fades.

Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift?

If you have sagging breasts, you may wonder whether you need a breast augmentation or a breast lift. If loose or excess skin is your primary concern, a lift makes a good option. If you also want shape and volume, you will need an augmentation. Dr. Lawton can perform both procedures simultaneously to ensure your new implants sit in the proper position on your chest.

Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

If you want breasts with more fullness and volume, a breast augmentation may be right for you. The best candidates have no major health problems and reasonable expectations about their results. If you smoke, you will need to stop several weeks before and after your procedure.
