How Can You Treat Gynecomastia?
Though gynecomastia is not generally a serious or harmful condition, it may cause back pain, discomfort during exercise, or decrease your self-confidence. That is why Dr. Lawton offers treatments to permanently reduce excess fat to help you achieve a more contoured physique. The two treatments available for gynecomastia reduction are liposuction-based and excision-based procedures.
Liposuction
With a liposuction approach, Dr. Lawton will make small incisions about one or two centimeters wide in order to suction out excess fat from the treatment area. The skin will typically tighten after treatment, and scarring will be barely visible.
Excision
During an excision-based treatment, Dr. Lawton will cut out the glandular breast tissue and excess skin to achieve a toned result. Unlike liposuction, excision-based treatments can relocate and resize the nipples that may have been misshapen due to gynecomastia. Dr. Lawton can advise you on which treatment is best to reach your goals and might suggest a combination of liposuction and excision when appropriate.
What is Recovery From Gynecomastia Treatment Like?
After a gynecomastia treatment, you will need to take some time off of work to rest and recuperate. Most patients may return to work after about two weeks, but if your work is labor-intensive, you will likely need more time to recover. You may feel sore for the first three days of recovery, but this is generally manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
During your recovery, we will provide you with a compression garment to wear to reduce swelling and keep your chest in the correct position as it heals. You will need to wait up to four weeks to resume light exercise and around six weeks or more to resume strenuous activity.
