The Top Three Things You May Not Know About Mommy Makeovers

The term “Mommy Makeover” may sound promising, but what does it really mean? It is more of a general term for a number of cosmetic procedures new mommies may want to undergo after their bodies have been put through pregnancy and childbirth. Mommy Makeovers specifically target the difficult areas that are stubborn to bounceback after such “trauma” to the skin.

Babies are absolutely miracles worth any amount of skin stretching, but trying to put that skin back where it belongs? Yes, that’s a miracle in itself as well. Thus, the Mommy Makeover was born!

1.It Can Be a Restorative Process

Breasts, stomachs, even thighs can have long-lasting results from nine months of expansion, followed by childbirth and breast feeding. Many new moms are thrilled with their new additions, but their happiness is tempered by feelings of self-consciousness. Things may be out of place, or a little weight may appear where it never used to be. Some moms even feel the need to constantly explain “I just had a baby” to make others understand that their current shape is only temporary.

Even with a proper diet and exercise, a woman’s body can endure some permanent changes after baby. That’s when Mommy Makeovers step in! Dr. Tenley Lawton can nip, tuck, tighten and pull these areas back into shape, making them almost like new again!

2.The Procedure Can Be Performed Relatively Soon After Baby

While every mother and body is different, many mommies begin to consider makeovers when their babies are around six months old. This gives you and your baby enough time to adjust to each other, and it also provides a good sense of where your body is at post-baby.

There is some recovery time involved –the length of which will depend on what procedures you opt for – so six months also ensures you’ve had proper time to bond with your baby before devoting a little downtime to yourself. Obviously, you’ll still be able to care for your little one, though certain procedures like a breast lift or tummy tuck may make it more difficult to pick up or carry around your bundle of joy. It is also important to stop breastfeeding three months before any procedure that involves the breasts, as we need an accurate assessment of their natural post-baby size and shape.

3.A Mommy Makeover Can Involve As Much or As Little as You Like

A Mommy Makeover is not one size fits all. It’s whatever size fits you. Some new mothers choose to tackle a variety of areas and procedures all at once, while others just want to reverse a little damage here or there. Mommy Makeovers can be as simple as a little body contouring or Botox, or they may include a tummy tuck, breast lift and liposuction.
