Nose Jobs 101: Is Smaller Always Better?

People (especially women) tend to think of the “ideal” nose as small, straight and perky. While these characteristics may be accurate in certain definitions of classic beauty, they are not the end all, be all. There are many other considerations that must be taken into account before determining what rhinoplasty procedure is right for you.

First off, “classic” definitions of beauty should never trump perspective. Faces are all about proportions. What looks small on one face may look massively out of place on another. On top of that, the size and shape of your nose will absolutely affect other facial features, including your eyes. Your nose and your chin also share a deep connection. Altering one without considering the other can throw off the balance of your face, resulting in facial disharmony and a weaker profile.

Still, we understand that many nose jobs are sought out in an effort to minimize this feature’s appearance. When this is the case, each part of the nose should be taken into consideration based on the patient’s goals. Sometimes, a simple shaving of the bridge will make a nose appear straighter, narrower, and less dominant. Other times, the tip may need a little refinement.
