A mommy makeover can be an absolutely exciting time for so many reasons! The anticipation of a refreshed look and restored body can make anyone giddy! Unfortunately, as with anything that disrupts the daily routine of you, your children, and your household, it can cause undue stress if proper planning isn’t put into place. Nobody’s got time for that – so let’s nip that in the bud before your mommy makeover even begins!
Recovery periods will vary depending on the nature of your specific mommy makeover. In general, however, you should plan ahead for surgical procedures like liposuction, breast lift/augmentation, and/or a tummy tuck. Remember, any surgery is taxing on the body, and mommy makeovers are no different.
Though we know you’ll be thrilled with the results, your excitement can remain unabashed if you plan to have significant help for at least 48 hours following surgery. This will be your most valuable time to rest, recuperate, and just take some time out for you while loved ones tend to the children and home.
You’ll start feeling like yourself in the week or so following this period, though some tasks will still be off-limits. These generally include heavy lifting, bending over, and any activity that involves a lot of exertion. Though you’ll regain some mobility, it is still a good idea to have someone around if you have children who are not yet walking or who need assistance with a variety of activities.
If possible, this recovery period is also a great time to plan some meals in advance. This is where a slow cooker can come in handy! Soups, stews, casseroles, chilis, jambalayas, and bakes can go a long way toward feeding you and your hungry family while you take a timeout. Those who want to truly splurge on some “me time” may also find that a temporary housekeeper (or husband, in-law, sibling, friend, neighbor, etc.) can be a lifesaver during this period.
It may also be an ideal time for your kids to try out a new after-school program, sport, playgroup, summer camp, or extra-curricular activity. And no one would discourage a sleepover, vacation with a friend’s family, or weekend away at Grandma and Grandpa’s during this time.
There’s no need for a recovery period to leave you feeling frustrated and stressed out. In fact, it’s just the opposite. This is the time to focus on you! This task is much easier to accomplish if a few plans are put into place ahead of time, leaving you to rest, recover, and re-emerge feeling and looking your absolute best. Trust us, your family will thank you.
