Is Microneedling Painful?

Microneedling has been around for decades and thanks to some significant improvements to the latest devices, we don’t think the procedure is going away anytime soon. The highly sought-after treatment produces total skin rejuvenation while also addressing your individual concerns. Patients enjoy microneedling because it is a minimally-invasive alternative that offers almost no pain, side effects, or downtime.

At Tenley K. Lawton M.D., we offer the latest, most advanced microneedling device on the market – SkinPen. With a wide range of treatment options available, she’s able to maximize your results with the least invasive solution. Whether you’re looking for a quick pick-me-up or want a treatment that will improve your skin’s overall texture and tone with time, microneedling could be right for you.

Do Microneedling Treatments Hurt?

SkinPen has custom depths based on your specific goals making treatment quick, easy, and generally pain-free. Before your procedure, a topical numbing cream will be applied to keep you comfortable throughout. A technician then goes to work rolling the SkinPen applicator over the treatment area during which you may feel slight pressure. After treatment, a soothing serum is applied to cool and calm any potential skin irritation.

What Side Effects Can I Expect?

Side effects from microneedling are few and far between. As your numbing cream wears off, discomfort should be minimal. You can expect some redness, swelling, tenderness, and/or pinpoint bleeding for up to 48-hours. Over-the-counter medications should be sufficient for pain management during this time.

At Tenley K. Lawton M.D., we often pair SkinPen microneedling procedures with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). Doing so allows us to use your platelets, stem cells, and other growth factors to enhance your long-term results. PRP is also beneficial for speeding the recovery process so you can get back to your day-to-day activities more quickly. Dr. Lawton suggests regular microneedling sessions to maintain optimal skin health. During your in-person consultation, Dr. Lawton will customize a treatment plan that will meet both your short and long-term goals.

Just had to write and say what a wonderful experience my surgery was with Dr. Lawton.

Aging is no fun and when the mirror tells you every day it makes you think of options.
Not knowing what my options were, I did some research.

I have a dear friend who had surgery here and asked her what she thought about her experience. i respect her opinion {and she looked fabulous!}.

When I had the consultation with Dr. Lawton I felt completely at ease and knew i would get the “natural” results i was after. She was kind and spent all the time answering my questions that I needed. I never felt rushed or that my questions were silly.

Now the procedure is done and I am a happy gal….hubby was supportive and now he says wow!

I can’t say how thrilled I am that I chose Dr Lawton and I will be referring her to all of my jealous friends

CA, Happy Patient
