How Long is Recovery from a Breast Lift?

The breast lift procedure is a great way to enhance the appearance of your breasts without the need for implants. Ideal for those experiencing sagging, asymmetry, and other woes, this procedure can help boost your confidence in what you already have. The procedure is similar to other breast surgeries, but you can expect some differences. But how does the process differ from breast implants and what can you expect from recovery? Let’s find out.

Breast Lifts: Implant-Free Solutions to Breast Enhancement

The good news is that breast lifts don’t involve implants, which means that they’re less invasive and the recovery process is slightly faster. Commonly called a “breast lift,” a mastopexy can be a great solution for the following concerns:

  • Sagging/Elongation of Breast Tissue
  • Change in Shape/Reduced Volume of Breasts
  • Breasts That Have Become “Pendulous”
  • Increased Discomfort Due To Sagging
  • Nipples That Sag Below Breast Crease

Generally, mastopexy involves the lifting of tissue. It is also very easily combined with other procedures to address further concerns that you may have regarding the breasts and associated areas.

What Can I Expect From Recovery?

With careful planning and preparation, recovery is quick and easy. And like any procedure, it’s important to adhere to the instructions that you are given after the surgery – the better you treat yourself during recovery, the better you can expect the results to be. Your return to normal life and activities will be gradual, but rewarding.

When Can I Exercise?

One major milestone of recovery is returning to exercise. We recommend staying away from strenuous activity for a month or two. Because the skin and deep tissues need time to recover from such a procedure, it’s important to not put stress on them. Even after two months, it’s important to get Dr. Lawton’s approval before resuming these types of activities.

When Can I Wear A Swimsuit?

Given the nature of the surgery, you’re probably excited to wear a swimsuit again. It’s a common concern. While you may feel ready sooner, we recommend three weeks before returning to the beach and the pool. This gives the skin and tissue time to heal and return to normal elasticity and water resistance. Additionally, the skin will need to be out of the sun –  the rays will slow down the healing process around the incision areas. Once you return to the water, use sunscreen and be sure to dry off immediately after swimming to ensure a full recovery.

When Will Scars Go Away?

Scarification is another common concern that we encounter with our patients. Dr. Lawton will do your procedure with the fewest incisions possible, ensuring minimal scarring. Additionally, you can expect the incisions to be in inconspicuous areas. But like any surgical procedure, post-surgical marks are inevitable. You can expect marks to fade away within six months, given proper care and follow-through. Over time, you can expect beautiful, natural-looking results that will have you looking and feeling great.
