How Does Kybella® Work?

Instead of removing fat, Kybella® breaks up the fat cells so your body’s lymphatic system will carry them away. Kybella® uses deoxycholic acid, a chemical that breaks apart fats. Our digestive system uses the same molecule to help break up and digest fat from our food. 

When injected into the double chin area, Kybella® targets fat cells and causes them to break down. It does not affect the surrounding tissue. The body will gradually carry away the damaged cells, revealing a more sculpted chin and jaw as well as a more slender neck. 

How Long Does Kybella® Swelling Last?

Swelling is the most frequent side effect of Kybella®, and most people can expect to have some swelling after each treatment. This swelling can last up to a month. Dr. Lawton will space your treatments at least a month apart to allow the swelling to resolve completely. You may need between two and six sessions, with most people achieving maximum results after four sessions.
