What is Breast Augmentation?

Fuller breasts are one of the most common plastic surgery goals, with enhancements ranging from subtle to significant. Dr. Lawton’s goal is shapely breasts that balance your figure and enhance your overall appearance. Breast augmentation boosts volume using breast implants. These implants are placed using different incisions depending on the best one for your anatomy.

How Long Does Breast Augmentation Last?

Breast implants usually give women many years of satisfaction, but they are not intended to last forever. The average breast augmentation will last ten to twenty years, but your results may differ. Some women develop problems such as:

  • Changes in the implant’s position
  • A rippled texture
  • Capsular contracture (scar tissue formation around the implant)
  • Implant rupture

Of these possibilities, implant rupture is by far the rarest. Implants have improved dramatically, allowing them to remain in place for a decade or more with minimal risk of rupturing. In addition, modern silicone implants use a gel that stays inside the implant if it ruptures.

Some women choose to have new implants even if they are not having problems because they want to change their size, shape, or projection. Breast augmentation replacement is usually similar to the original procedure but may be performed differently.

CONSULTATIONS AVAILABLE NOW

The first step is to schedule an in-person consultation with Dr. Lawton or one of our trusted providers at Tenley K Lawton M.D. in Neport Beach, CA. Simply fill out the form on this page and we will reach out to you promptly to schedule your appointment.

What’s the Best Type of Breast Implant?

During your consultation, Dr. Lawton will review your breast implant options and explain why you might prefer each one. This choice is very personal, so you will be encouraged to take time and explore both options.

Saline implants are silicone shells filled with sterile saline. Because they can be placed before they are filled, you have a wider variety of surgical options. They will also release only salt water if they rupture.

Today’s silicone implants contain a firm gel with a natural look and feel that many women prefer. However, only an in-depth discussion with Dr. Lawton will allow her to identify which option may work better for you.

What is Recovery Like After Breast Augmentation?

During the first few days after your procedure, you may experience soreness, swelling, and tiredness. How you feel will depend on how your procedure was performed, but most people return to work in one to two weeks

You can safely resume light exercise after a few weeks, but strenuous exercise, especially lifting, should wait until Dr. Lawton approves them. This timeline also depends on the details of your procedure.
