Halloween is nearly upon us, bringing with it the joyful time of dressing up our children in costumes, taking them by the hand and walking from house to house, seeing their faces light up each time they receive a piece of candy in their little bag. Unfortunately, all of this candy brings along tummy aches, cavities, and weight gain, especially from the candy we take for ourselves!
There are a few tricks that we can use to be sure that we and our children don’t overindulge in sweets. First, it’s always a good idea to make sure you feed your children before heading out on the streets. This can help to battle initial cravings and snacking as you walk, you’d be surprised at how much candy can disappear as you walk from block to block. Also, it’s always a good idea to hold on to your children’s candy for them after trick or treating and then doling it out a couple of pieces at a time. This will prevent your children from gorging themselves on candy as soon as your back is turned. Finally, and most importantly, be sure to always inspect your children’s candy to be sure that it is safe.
With these tips in mind, you can be confident in having a safe and relatively healthy Halloween!
