Breast lifts and augmentations may target the same body part, but they general perform two different functions. Your choice of either procedure should depend on what kind of results you’re hoping to achieve.

Breast Lifts
A breast lift is exactly that – a physical “lifting” of the skin. This tends to be performed when a woman wants to correct drooping that occurs over time due to breastfeeding, weight loss, or general aging. Breast lifts normally create a tighter, firmer look. They can also reposition the nipple.

This procedure won’t add volume, however, although it may appear that way as the breast is lifted. Scarring can occur with breast lifts, though this tends to be minimal.

Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation uses an implant to increase your cup size. Most implants nowadays are composed of saline. An augmentation can correct very slight drooping, but cannot compensate for a lift in more severe cases. In general, your breasts will maintain the same natural shape, as the implant simply adds volume and cleavage.

Implants may need to be replaced over time, which can result in additional follow-up appointments or replacement procedures. There generally tends to be less scarring with breast augmentation than with breast lifts, however.
