What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that uses implants to enlarge the breasts. Implants are inserted either under or over the chest muscle in order to make them larger and fuller. A breast lift may be done at the same time of surgery, which can address any sagging skin on top of your breasts (a condition called ptosis).
Implants may be made of silicone or saline. Dr. Lawton can help you decide which option will meet your needs and give you the results you want. While in the past some people had health concerns about silicone implants, Dr. Lawton uses only the most advanced and safety-tested types of implants for your surgery.
What Types of Breast Augmentation Are There?
A person may want breast augmentation for many reasons. The most common reason is a desire to correct or improve the shape of the breasts, but people also seek revision surgery to correct past issues, repair after a mastectomy, or correction of a congenital defect. Some types of breast augmentation include:
Breast Augmentation with Lift
While a breast augmentation alone can replace lost volume or enhance size, droopiness or loose skin may require a breast lift. This procedure can be performed with an augmentation. It can also reduce the size of the areola that has become enlarged due to stretched skin or hormones.
Revision Breast Augmentation
Sometimes people feel unsatisfied with the results of a breast procedure. Other times, they have enjoyed their results, but their implants have become outdated or damaged over time. Dr. Lawton, an expert in revision breast augmentation, can help you achieve or restore your desired results.
Breast Augmentation with Lift
These two procedures may be performed together when the breasts show significant sagging or loose skin not corrected by the augmentation. The lift requires a somewhat larger incision, but scarring can be minimized with good care after surgery.
Reconstructive Breast Augmentation
For those who have lost all or part of a breast due to cancer or other factors, reconstruction with augmentation can restore confidence and a feeling of wholeness. Dr. Lawton will achieve the symmetry and natural look you want to restore.
