Am I a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Most healthy adults make good candidates for rhinoplasty. You may be a good candidate if:

• You want to change the appearance of your nose
• You have trouble breathing through your nose 
• You understand the risks and benefits
• You have no significant health problems
• You do not smoke or will quit before surgery
• You have reasonable expectations

Dr. Lawton will meet with you and review your medical history and treatment goals. This helps her determine whether you will be a good candidate for rhinoplasty.

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Dr. Lawton performs rhinoplasty in her accredited surgical suite. She may perform closed rhinoplasty, using small incisions inside the nostrils, or open rhinoplasty, using an incision hidden between the two nostrils. Open rhinoplasty is usually used for more complex procedures with the more intensive reshaping. The nasal bones and cartilage are reshaped to achieve the appearance you want. 

Types of Rhinoplasty

When most people think of rhinoplasty, they think of cosmetic procedures. Surgeons may also perform rhinoplasty for functional reasons. 

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is an extremely popular procedure. Cosmetic rhinoplasty includes any procedure that adjusts the appearance of the nose without improving the function. Insurance will not cover this kind of rhinoplasty.

Functional Rhinoplasty

Functional rhinoplasty restores the normal function of the nose. You may have been born with a structural nose problem, or you may have injured your nose. Functional rhinoplasty corrects issues like a deviated septum (damage to the divider between the nostrils). Insurance may cover this type of rhinoplasty.
