Breast augmentation is one of the world’s most commonly requested procedures among women. The surgery can be done after pregnancy or menopause to restore lost volume and improve a breast’s shape. Augmentation is also a great way for women to achieve fuller breasts than what they were naturally given. Whatever the reason you’re considering a breast augmentation, Tenley K. Lawton M.D. is here to help.
Thanks to the latest surgical advancements, breast enhancement procedures are easier than ever. Today, we’ll take a closer look at how you can minimize recovery and get back to your normal routine as soon as possible.
#1: Choose a Skilled Surgeon
A skilled surgeon will know the proper techniques towards facilitating a smooth recovery. Look for a surgeon who is board-certified to ensure an optimal outcome without complications. Dr. Lawton is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in breast enhancement procedures of all types. She customizes each procedure with the most advanced surgical techniques and precision placement to meet your desired aesthetic goals.
#2: Plan, Plan, Plan
Facilitating a quick recovery after a breast augmentation is relatively easy when you plan ahead. Set yourself up for a successful recovery by making sure your weekly errands are done, you have plenty of meals in the house, and your recovery area is complete with all the essentials. During the first week of recovery, you should also have plenty of help when it comes to pets and childcare.
#3: Optimize Your Health Before Surgery
Healthy adults typically respond best to any surgery. Smoking is a big no-no before a breast augmentation and should be avoided at least 6-weeks before surgery and throughout the entire recovery process. Drinking lots of water and adding healthier foods to your diet can go a long way towards a speedy recovery. Dr. Lawton will speak with you about other ways you can get in the best shape possible before your augmentation.

#4: Compression Garments are Your New Best Friend
After your surgery, you’ll be provided with a compression bra. For the first week, you should wear this garment around the clock. The compression helps minimize post-surgical swelling and bruising and thus downtime. It also prevents the breasts from moving around during your recovery. In the later weeks following surgery and until the breasts are fully healed, your compression bra can be worn solely while sleeping and during physical activities.
#5: Don’t Push Yourself Too Soon
While you’ll likely start to feel more like yourself in about 5-7 days, you still don’t want to push yourself too hard too soon. Listen to your body and take breaks whenever necessary. Doing so will help minimize potential complications and scarring as you heal. Dr. Lawton will provide you with a full set of post-operative recovery instructions including weight restrictions. Closely follow her instructions and you’ll be back in your normal routine before you know it.
