Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Over the years, factors such as gravity, pregnancy, nursing, and weight loss take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity,
the breasts often lose their shape and begin to sag. A breastlift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to restore a more youthful shape and
position to sagging breasts. Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have
lost volume breast implants can be inserted at the time of mastopexy to increase both their firmness and their size.
The best candidates for mastopexy are healthy women with realistic expectations about what the surgery can accomplish. The best results are usually
achieved in women with small, sagging breasts. Breasts of any size can be lifted, but the results may not last as long in heavy breasts. Both your self
confidence and appearance can be improved with mastopexy surgery.
The procedure tightens the breast tissue and removes some of the stretched skin to create an uplifted and shapely form. In addition, if your areola
is large it can be designed to be proportional to the contoured breast and raised to a more desirable position. The length and location of the incisions
will vary depending on the amount of lift required. Dr. Lawton will make every effort to limit the length of the scar and place it in the most inconspicuous
location. Fortunately, the incisions can be easily covered by your bra, bathing suit or clothing.
